Another idea for this cemetery if the land cannot be set aside may be to move all the graves to an appropriate cemetery, such as Lone Mountain Cemetery, in Carson City, and provide an appropriate memorial marker with all the names.

I feel that if it is a known historic cemetery, then the state could at the very minimum border the area and create a memorial. That seems to be a good option. This could also help to show that public awareness of mental health patients have changed. It would show that we now understand that the people buried there sadly lived in an era where they were mistreated and found unworthy of decent treatment. We now know that mental illness can happen to anyone from the very young to elderly people. They are just another human being on this journey through life and deserve to be treated with respect and decency.

I think the move to Lone Mountain is a good option if they are to be moved. There should then be an good memorial with all names on it saying that they had died at the State Hospital.

A memorial might be a nice stone angel. I read in another hospital preservation that they put a large angel above the cemetery. They chose the angel because it is representative of most major religions.

Another idea would be a nice drought-tolerant landscaping with maybe some benches near the memorial.
